If you’ve just moved into a new home or finished a renovation, you know that feeling of staring at empty shelves wondering where to even begin. That was me with our bar area! I’m sharing exactly how I styled these shelves from scratch — plus everything you need to recreate the look.

Before — The Empty Shelves

Every great styling project starts with a blank canvas. Here’s what our built-in bar shelves looked like before — beautiful bones, but needing some life!

The Styling Plan

I wanted to achieve a modern farmhouse feel — warm, organic, and functional. My three rules for styling shelves:

1. Mix heights — tall, medium and small objects together 2. Mix textures — ceramic, glass, greenery and metal 3. Keep it functional — especially for a bar area!

The After — Shelf by Shelf

Top Shelf I kept the top shelf simple and organic with a white ceramic pitcher, a cream vase with greenery, and a small black jug. The varying heights create visual interest without feeling cluttered.

Middle Shelf The middle shelf is all about function meets beauty. Crystal glasses and wine glasses look stunning displayed openly — plus they’re easy to grab for entertaining!

Counter Area The counter is where the real bar magic happens! A gold cocktail shaker, decorative antler sculpture, and a gorgeous marble tray tie everything together.

The After Photo

I love how this space turned out — it feels elevated but still warm and liveable. The key to styling any shelf is to mix textures, vary heights, and not overcrowd. Less is always more!
